Are you a visionary payments leader with a proven track record of building and scaling card portfolios? A leading bank in Kenya is seeking a dynamic and strategic Head of Cards & Payments to spearhead the development and growth of our card business.

This is a high-impact role where you will have full P&L accountability and the mandate to shape the future of payments for our customers. You will be at the helm of our card strategy, from product conception to market-leading execution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy & Development:
    Develop and execute the end-to-end product strategy for our card portfolio, including credit, debit, and innovative payment solutions.
  • Financial Performance:
    Own the P&L for the card business, driving revenue growth, managing costs, and maximizing profitability through strategic initiatives.
  • Product Launch:
    Lead the entire product lifecycle, from building business cases and securing approvals to program managing successful launches and post-launch optimization.
  • Customer Experience:
    Champion a best-in-class customer journey by collaborating with cross-functional teams to address and resolve issues related to fraud, declines, chargebacks, and technical performance.
  • Commercial Growth:
    Initiate and manage targeted customer acquisition campaigns, sales promotions, and tactical initiatives to increase market share and spend volume.
  • Stakeholder Management:
    Collaborate effectively with internal teams (Marketing, IT, Operations, Sales) and external partners to align goals and drive results.
  • Innovation:
    Stay ahead of market trends and implement cutting-edge payment projects, such as tokenization and virtual card programs.

Who You Are:

  • A seasoned professional with
    years of experience
    in card product management, business development, or operations within retail banking.
  • You have a demonstrable history of successfully launching and managing card products, with full P&L responsibility.
  • You possess strong analytical skills to monitor portfolio health (approval rates, spend growth, limit utilization) and make data-driven decisions.
  • You are an excellent communicator and leader, skilled at managing senior stakeholders and motivating cross-functional teams.
  • You are agile, adept at managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience in managing the entire credit card product lifecycle.
  • Experience developing and executing go-to-market strategies and sales enablement programs.
  • Familiarity with Agile product development methodologies.
  • A deep understanding of the payments landscape, market trends, and regulatory environment.
