ABOUT THE COMPANY
GIZ, the German Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH, provides services in the field of international technical cooperation worldwide. In Kenya, it has been active since 1964, and up to now implements programs in a wide variety of areas, including economic development, green energy and water, governance, food security, and peace and security. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is GIZ's main commissioning party. However, GIZ as well works closely with the private sector, fostering successful interaction between development policy and foreign trade.
JOB SUMMARY
BACKGROUNDThe persistent political and economic fragility and instability in Somalia hinder the equalsocial and economic participation of women. Women are disproportionately affected by precarious circumstances and form a vulnerable group within the Somali society. Patriarchal and male-dominated clan structures limit the opportunities for equal economic and social participation of women and members of minority clans. Conflicts, droughts and famines have further increased structural violence and abuse ofwomen. 99.2% of all women between the ages of 15 and 49 in Somalia are affected by female genital mutilation. Clientelism and financial advantage along clan lines and other socio-economic structures are widespread. Women are increasingly playing a recognized role as entrepreneurs in economic development. However, there is a lack of opportunities at the individual and systemic level to develop micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in a sustainable and profitable way. It is on this background that GIZ is implementing the project 'Entrepreneurship promotion inSomalia' Kismayo district of Lower Juba, and Baidoa in Southwest State with funding from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The project's target group is women of working age, specifically women led MSMEs. This also includesintermediaries who i.e. training providers, associations, non-governmentalorganizations, ministries in the project region. The project contributes to SDG 5 (gender equality) and SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth). It also feeds into the National Development Plan on strengtheningthe economic prospects of women and young adults in Pillar 3 on Economic Development. The project also adds to the first National Gender Action Plan for Somalia by strengthening the socio-economic participation of women and thus contributing to the perpetuation of changed gender roles. The project's strategy focuses on capacity building at target group level as well as capacity development measures for civil society, government, and private sector organizations. Technical and process advice will promote the development of coordination capacities and capacities of relevant actors, in particular state and private actors, who are involved in multi-stakeholder forums on economic participation.
