Nairobi, Nairobi Area, Kenya UNICEF - United Nations Children's Fund Full time
UNICEF works in some of the world's toughest places, to reach the world's most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, communication.

UNICEF is keen to expand its private sector fundraising operations across the region, and in particular in Kenya and South Africa.

The Private and Public Partnerships team (PPP) is in the process of setting up a regional, fundraising digital platform to encourage and engage individuals to learn about UNICEF's programmes, particularly in emergencies, and to donate to UNICEF's work on a regular basis.

With support from PFP, Geneva ESARO is starting to test digital fundraising to test and establish this new channel for fundraising for ESAR and ESAR country offices.

This is aligned to PFP global strategy of engaging with new markets through a cluster / regional approach.

Since digital marketing is about simplified communication geared at improving return on investment, that needs ongoing testing, we see the need for hiring someone with specialized skills and support informing and training colleagues on how to effectively communicate with this group of stakeholders.

The consultant will work closely between PPP and Communications team to ensure existing content is repurposed for acquiring individual donors and engaging with existing donors through emailers and newsletters and to inform country offices to effectively gather more relevant content to support digital fundraising and donor engagement.

Scope of Work

Goal and objective:

Under the supervision of Partnerships Specialist and with guidance from Regional Communications Chief, the consultant will

  • Work with digital marketing agency to create fundraising advertisements, landing pages and donor stewardship communication. This is in reference to the activity in the annual work plan that involves resource mobilization & partnerships strategies oversight, technical support, quality assurance and capacity development.

Working with the Fundraising team in ESARO as well as the PFP and HQ experts, develop a framework for content production, that the country offices can use to guide their content gathering, and agencies can use for editing and postproduction.

The framework should be informed by - UNICEF's brand book, the ethical imagery guidance, the new inclusive story telling model and relevant fundraising strategies.

Develop and produce content:
based on this framework, and where needed working with internal and external consultants/agencies, the role will develop a content production plan and develop content that can include:

  • Repurposed assets using archive material on UNICEF's Digital Asset Management platform WeShare to create new assets.
  • Creative conceptual assets using graphic/ animated elements.
  • Remote produced content by remotely working with often amateur content creators to produce content packages.
  • Incountry content production by travelling to an affected country to produce content packages (often working in collaboration with local content creators).
  • Managing postproduction process of content assets.
  • Ensuring that all content production and postproduction meets UNICEF's ethical and technical specifications and is prepared with various versions for dissemination including packaging on WeShare.
  • Track and monitor performance of content. Working with fundraising consultants and agency, you will track the performance of fundraising content and make adjustments based on findings, allowing for all other factors of tests, including timing, quantity and channels of fundraising marketing products.
  • Participate in fundraising working group, led by the PPP team, and also join the weekly communication team meetings, and the fortnightly strategy meetings.

Work relationships

Outputs/Deliverables:

  • Develop framework for content creation and delivery
  • Develop and create content in line with framework – in line with the demands of marketing and communication plans
  • Produce a monthly report on performance of content, including reach, engagement and sign up from new and existing donors.
  • Develop a donor recognition and visibility plan in line with the new global framework and including creative ideas for elevating profile of key donors in the region.
