About the Position
">The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a highly skilled Coordination Officer to manage the CITES MIKE Programme, which aims to monitor and combat the illegal killing of elephants in Africa and Asia. As part of this role, you will be responsible for coordinating programme activities, including implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of associated projects, as well as ensuring the financial and operational sustainability of the program.
">Key Responsibilities

- Develop, implement, and evaluate programme activities and projects, including monitoring challenges and proposing corrective actions;">
- Coordinate budget administration and finances, including preparing documents and reports, and monitoring allocations and expenditures;">
- Manage human resources related to MIKE Programme staff, project personnel, and consultants, including recruitment, providing support, and ensuring timely delivery of services and outputs;">
- Oversee data compilation, management, and analysis, presenting results and recommendations to participating national governments, decision-makers, and stakeholders;">
- Identify suitable partner organizations, establish partnerships, and facilitate regional, national, and site-based capacity-building activities;">
- Evaluate operations, initiate improvements, and assess feasibility of applying data collection and management protocols to other species and emerging threats;">
- Represent the CITES Secretariat at workshops, meetings, and missions, collecting and analyzing data to identify trends or patterns, and providing insights through data visualization methods.">
Requirements
">To be successful in this role, you will need:
">- ">
- A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible professional experience in programme/project management;">
- At least five years of work experience in regional and international organizations, preferably in developing countries within the UN system or similar organizations;">
- Experience with biodiversity-related issues, particularly with the work of the biodiversity-related Multilateral Environmental Agreements;">
- Fluency in English is required, with knowledge of French or Spanish being desirable;">
- Advanced University degree in natural resource management, business administration, project management, or a related area;">
- Demonstrated ability to conduct data collection, analysis, and interpretation, as well as conceptual analytical and evaluative skills.">
