inABLE is a not-for-profit organization based in Nairobi, Kenya and Washington, D.C., with a mission to empower African youth with disabilities through assistive technology and digital accessibility. inABLE achieves its mission by establishing various programs and collaborating with local, regional, and international partners. Through these strategic partnerships, inABLE has achieved remarkable success in empowering African youth with disabilities to use technology as a tool for education, employment, and independence.

Program Background.

inABLE is scaling Africa's inclusive digital economy by preparing youth with disabilities for quality employment and catalyzing systems change. Through the Inclusive Africa Program (IAP), we build both talent and demand by training Digital Accessibility Champions, mobilizing advocates and youth leaders, accelerating assistive technology (AT) entrepreneurs, and advancing digital accessibility standards through the Inclusive Africa Conference. Our Unlocking Opportunities program converts readiness into employment through employer sensitization, placements and internships, job-matching forums, and access to inclusive finance and assistive technology with a particular focus on retention of young women. We also operate Assistive Technology Labs and Inclusive Digital Hubs, mainstream digital accessibility standards across e-services, strengthen teacher and institutional capacity, and conduct research and evidence generation to inform government and industry practice.

Role Overview

inABLE seeks an accomplished and visionary
Communications, Engagement & Public Relations, Manager

to lead the organization's communications strategy, stakeholder engagement, and brand positioning across Africa and beyond.

This is an executive role that requires a results-driven leader who can elevate inABLE's voice, strengthen partnerships, and position the organization as the
top-of-mind authority on digital accessibility and inclusion

. The successful candidate will spearhead brand visibility, media engagement, and digital outreach to grow inABLE's impact, influence, and reach across the continent.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and implement comprehensive communication, stakeholder engagement and public relations strategies to support InABLE's programs and targeted national and regional growth 

Strategic Communications Leadership

·       Develop and execute a comprehensive communications and engagement strategy that amplifies inABLE's mission, programs, and global influence.

·       Lead brand positioning and ensure consistent, inspiring messaging across all communication channels and audiences.

·       Anticipate emerging trends and advise leadership on communication opportunities, innovations, and risks.

·       Represent inABLE in high-level communications forums, media interactions, and stakeholder engagements.

Brand Visibility and Public Relations

·       Drive proactive media and public relations strategies that strengthen inABLE's visibility and thought leadership in Africa's digital inclusion ecosystem.

·       Cultivate and maintain high-value relationships with media, development partners, donors, and influencers.

·       Lead the design and execution of flagship communications events, campaigns, and conferences that spotlight inABLE's work and impact.

·       Oversee crisis communication, ensuring reputational resilience and strategic response management.

Stakeholder and Partnership Engagement

·       Strengthen engagement with key stakeholders — government, private sector, donors, and the disability community — to deepen collaboration and impact.

·       Drive strategic partnerships that expand program reach and institutional visibility.

·       Guide the production of policy briefs, advocacy content, and communication materials that support stakeholder engagement and policy influence.

Digital Communications and Community Building

·       Oversee digital and social media strategy to enhance brand engagement and digital accessibility.

·       Ensure inABLE's online platforms are dynamic, inclusive, and aligned with the organisation's values and voice.

·       Leverage data analytics and audience insights to inform content, campaign design, and impact measurement.

Knowledge Management and Storytelling

·       Oversee the documentation, packaging, and dissemination of inABLE's learnings, research findings, and success stories.

·       Supervise the development of reports, articles, and digital stories that inspire action and demonstrate results.

·       Ensure communication outputs influence policy, attract partnerships, and strengthen the organisation's credibility.

Qualifications and Experience

·       Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

·       At least
8–10 years

of progressive experience in strategic communications, public relations, or corporate affairs, preferably in international development or nonprofit settings.

·       Demonstrated success in building and executing high-impact communications and brand strategies.

·       Proven track record in media relations, stakeholder engagement, and digital communications leadership.

·       Strong understanding of donor-funded programming, policy advocacy, and communications for development.

·       Exceptional writing, storytelling, and interpersonal communication skills.

·       Experience in crisis communications, strategic advisory, and team leadership.
