The Opportunity: Data Assistant

Join Shujaaz Inc.'s Knowledge & Learning team as a Data Assistant and kickstart your career in data analysis This is a hands-on learning opportunity where you'll support our mission to create positive impact for young people across East Africa while developing essential data science skills.

Your Role in the Spotlight

  • Data Collection & Cleaning:
    Assist with organizing and preparing datasets from surveys, social media, and user interactions
  • Basic Analysis:
    Perform descriptive statistics and create simple visualizations under supervision
  • Tool Proficiency:
    Build skills in Excel, R, and data visualization tools through real projects
  • AI Exploration:
    Learn to use AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude for data tasks and research support
  • Report Support:
    Help prepare charts, graphs, and summaries for team reports and presentations
  • Research Assistance:
    Support qualitative data coding and survey design activities
  • Documentation:
    Contribute to data documentation and process improvement initiatives

Skills and Superpowers

  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Excel and basic statistical concepts
  • Interest in learning programming languages (R preferred, but we'll teach you)
  • Good communication skills for presenting findings
  • Curiosity about data and its applications for social impact

Exceptional time management and organization, able to multitask, prioritize and adapt quickly to changing priorities.

Requirements That Shine Bright

·       A completed Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science, or a related field is required.

·       At least 2 years of experience in data analysis, research, or related analytical role.

·       Strong analytical thinking and exceptional attention to detail.

·       Proficiency in Excel, R, Stata, SQL, and solid understanding of basic statistical concepts.

·       Exposure to AI tools and familiarity with their applications in data analysis and research.

·       Interest in working on the back-end development of AI tools like chatbots and automated systems.

·       Good communication skills for presenting findings and collaborating with team members.

·       Curiosity about data and its applications for creating social impact.

·       Self-motivated, organized and meticulous about your work with a reliable work ethic and the ability to work effectively under supervision while developing independence.

·       Passion for learning new tools and methodologies in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience with R, Python, or any other statistical software
  • Experience with SQL
  • Experience with survey tools or social media analytics
  • Interest in East African development or youth programs
  • Familiarity with AI tools for productivity
