About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Casual Pastry Chef to join the pastry kitchen within a 5-Star hotel based in Nairobi. The establishment's commitment to excellence extends to every aspect of our operations, including all culinary offerings.
You will work under the guidance of the Executive Pastry Chef to ensure the consistent delivery of exceptional, visually appealing, and delicious bakery items.
Position Overview
The Casual Pastry Chef is an integral part of the culinary team; responsible for creating exquisite breads, a wide range of pastries, and desserts that meet the high standards expected at a 4-star establishment.
The ideal candidate should have work experience as a baker and should be skilled in mixing dough, preparing fillings and glazing pastries, and decorating cakes using creative techniques. For this, a keen attention to detail will be key along with excellent organization and planning skills, superior cooperative abilities, and a strong focus on quality management.
Key Responsibilities
- Production of Pastries:
• Execute the production of a variety of baked goods pastries and desserts according to established recipes and quality standards.
• Ensure the use of high-quality, fresh ingredients in all bakery preparations.
• Monitor inventory levels and communicate with the Head Pastry Chef regarding ordering supplies as needed.
- Recipe Adherence and Innovation:
• Follow standardized recipes and procedures to maintain the consistency and quality of baked goods.
• Collaborate with the pastry team to contribute ideas for new creations and seasonal menus.
• Stay updated on industry trends and techniques to bring innovative elements to the pastry kitchen's offerings.
- Quality Control:
• Conduct regular quality spot checks on ingredients and finished products to maintain the highest standards of taste, texture, and presentation.
• Promptly address and resolve any issues related to the quality of bakery products.
- Team Collaboration:
• Work closely with other members of the pastry team, as well as chefs from other departments, to coordinate and fulfill overall culinary requirements.
• Assist in training newly onboarded bakery staff, ensuring they adhere to established procedures and maintain quality standards.
- Sanitation and Safety:
• Adhere to all health and safety guidelines, including proper food handling and storage procedures.
• Keep workstations and equipment clean, organized, and in compliance with sanitation standards.
- Guest Interaction:
• Collaborate with the front-of-house staff to address customer inquiries and special requests regarding bakery products.
• Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor when in a position to interact with guests e.g., when manning displays during events and monthly functions.
About You
§ Proven experience as a Pastry Baker in a high-end restaurant, bakery or 4 to 5-star hotel environment.
§ Culinary degree or relevant certification in bakery production.
§ Strong knowledge of baking methods, pastry techniques and dessert production.
§ Ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
§ Exceptional teamwork and communication skills.
§ Creativity and a passion for staying updated on industry trends.
§ Knowledge of health and safety regulations and sanitation practices.
§ Strong problem-solving abilities and outspoken nature in regard to your baking knowledgebase.
§ Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
§ Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as per the business needs.
