Job Summary: Community Development Specialist

World Vision is an international Christian relief, development and advocacy organization working in almost 100 countries to create lasting change in the lives of children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.

This role is based in Kinango, Kenya, and focuses on supporting community mobilization and implementation of the Restore Africa Program, a project aimed at improving ecosystem restoration, livelihoods, and climate resilience for smallholder farmers and pastoralists.

The successful candidate will have a degree in Agriculture, Environmental Education, or a related field, and at least 2 years of experience in community development work, project management, and environmental programming.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mobilize communities to adopt sustainable land management practices, such as FMNR (Farmers Managed Natural Regeneration) and S4T (Soil, Foliar, Trees, and Tillage)
  • Develop and implement project plans, budgets, and monitoring tools to ensure effective project delivery
  • Work with community structures to establish resource centers, promote landscape protection, and support farmers in adopting sustainable practices
  • Collaborate with government agencies, partners, and stakeholders to build synergies and achieve project goals
  • Ensure adherence to World Vision and donor guidelines, and participate in quarterly technical working groups
  • Support project assessment processes, including baseline, mid-term, and endline evaluations

Requirements:

  • 2 years of experience in community development, project management, and environmental programming
  • Strong communication, networking, and advocacy skills
  • Excellent English and Kiswahili communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team
  • Valid motorcycle riding license and willingness to travel frequently
  • Physical availability to work in a field-based environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good computer skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Familiarity with environment sector programming
  • Ability to undertake initiatives and work with minimal supervision
