OCHA is a leading global organization that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the environment.

The Climate Change Division delivers strategic guidance and high-impact action to support the transition towards climate stability. We provide capacity building and technical support to governments to enhance their policy and implementation capacity and help them access finance to align with the Paris Agreement.

We are looking for a Senior Climate Communications Specialist to join our team in Nairobi. As a key member of our division, you will be responsible for delivering on our knowledge management and communications strategy with a focus on the Africa region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with partners and institutions to ensure continued delivery of our knowledge management and communications strategy and workplan
  • Support the mainstreaming of the role of knowledge management and communications in our program
  • Promote media coverage of priority issues and major achievements and events of our program and partner countries
  • Monitor and analyze current events, public opinion, and press to identify issues and trends
  • Manage and grow contact lists, including general info subscribers, media, newsletter subscribers, and weekly roundup subscribers
  • Support national-level communication teams
  • Point media inquiries to respective REDD representatives and technical experts

Requirements:

We are looking for a highly qualified professional with at least five years of relevant working experience in communication and/or knowledge management applied to climate action, ecosystem conservation, or its sustainable use.

A good working knowledge of Internet, electronic communications, website management, social media platforms, and online engagement strategies is required. Experience in writing, editing, producing, and disseminating communication and knowledge products for diverse audiences is also necessary.
