Business Development Manager – Chemicals & Petrochemicals
About Energetech
Energetech is a global energy trading and infrastructure development firm focused on accelerating the energy transition. With deep market expertise across power, natural gas, LNG, refined products, lubricants, and emerging low-carbon fuels, we combine commercial agility with operational execution to deliver practical, impactful solutions. We thrive on innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurial spirit, building scalable businesses that contribute to a more sustainable energy future.
As part of our ongoing commodity diversification strategy, we are seeking a commercially driven Business Development Manager to lead our growth into industrial chemicals and petrochemicals markets focused on mining, agriculture, and industrial end-users.
About the Role
Energetech is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager with expertise in petrochemicals and industrial chemicals commonly used in mining and industrial sectors. In this role, you'll originate, structure, and execute profitable business opportunities, leveraging our established logistics capabilities and strategic presence across frontier markets in Africa.
The position requires strong commercial acumen, deep market insight into both petrochemical and industrial chemical commodities, practical knowledge of physical trading operations, and an entrepreneurial mindset focused on capturing margin-based business opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate, structure, and execute business opportunities involving petrochemicals (lubricants, PE, PP, PVC, Methanol) and industrial chemicals (sulphuric acid, caustic soda, lime products, cyanide, ammonia-based explosives, flotation reagents, activated carbon, hydrochloric acid).
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with chemical producers and key industrial end-users, especially in mining, agriculture, and heavy industries, ensuring reliable supply and sustained demand.
- Structure transactions effectively, managing Letters of Credit (LCs) and trade finance instruments to efficiently support profitable business operations.
- Identify and capitalize on regional arbitrage and business opportunities, particularly within frontier and logistics-constrained markets.
- Collaborate with logistics providers and internal teams to optimize physical deliveries, streamline supply chain operations, and ensure compliance with international standards.
- Manage compliance with international trade regulations, chemical handling guidelines, and transport/storage requirements across relevant jurisdictions.
- Provide detailed market intelligence, pricing analysis, supply-demand forecasting, and competitor insights to inform Energetech's chemicals business strategies.
- Represent Energetech at industry forums, trade events, and client meetings, strengthening our market presence in the global chemical and petrochemical landscape.
Key Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years relevant business development or commercial experience specifically in petrochemicals and/or industrial chemicals serving mining, agriculture, or industrial sectors.
- Proven track record in originating, structuring, negotiating, and executing profitable business opportunities with industrial end-users and producers.
- Established industry relationships within chemical producers, mining companies, industrial manufacturers, and logistics providers.
- In-depth knowledge of chemical commodities used in mining, metallurgy, agriculture, and industrial processes, including market dynamics, production economics, and logistics operations.
- Practical experience managing international logistics operations, including bulk shipments, ISO tank logistics, and chemical storage solutions.
- Strong commercial acumen, excellent negotiation skills, and strategic relationship management abilities.
- Entrepreneurial, proactive, and results-driven mindset with the capability to independently identify and pursue business opportunities.
- Fluent English required; proficiency in additional languages (French, Arabic, Mandarin) advantageous for market engagement.
Why Join Us?
- Opportunity to build and rapidly scale a profitable chemicals and petrochemicals business at Energetech, leveraging our established market presence and logistics infrastructure.
- Entrepreneurial environment providing autonomy, rewarding initiative, and direct P&L responsibility.
- Capitalize on Energetech's strategic positioning in frontier markets to capture high-margin business opportunities.
- Competitive compensation package with performance-driven incentives directly linked to profitability.
- Integral role in diversifying Energetech's commodity portfolio, contributing significantly to the firm's long-term growth strategy.
